West Ewell Primary School and Nursery

Happy Days - Bright Futures

British Values

At West Ewell Primary School and Nursery we recognise the multi-cultural, multi-faith United Kingdom that we live in today. We also acknowledge the government’s demand that British Values are promoted in school. Five British Values have been identified by the government:

  • Democracy

Child voice is important to us at West Ewell. Children are encouraged to contribute to decision making with School Council members being elected by their peers.

  • The rule of law

The children develop their class rules that sit within those of the wider school.

  • Individual liberty

Within the curriculum and at play the children have many opportunities to  exercise choice.

  • Mutual respect

Respect is one of our three values that children are familiar with and which underpins the way we relate to each other at West Ewell.

  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

We have children and staff from different faiths and cultures and we seek to ensure that a greater understanding of difference is achieved through our assemblies, Religious Education curriculum, visitors and the broader Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural curriculum.
