At West Ewell Infant and Nursery School we aim to help pupils realise their academic, social and personal potential. We believe that Parents/carers are the key educators in children's lives and have a critical influence over the success of children's academic, social and personal lives. We therefore work in strong partnership with parents.
Two-way communication
- Before children come into school parents/carers will be offered a home visit by the Nursery teacher and Nursery Nurse. This is an opportunity for the teacher to visit the child in their own environment, which will ease transition from home to school.
- We have an active PSA and enhance the life of the school by organising fund raising events and social events for adults and children.
- There is a suggestion box in the entrance for parents to use.
- A weekly newsletter is sent home every Friday from the Headteacher.
- We need to know if a child cannot attend school, and therefore encourage either a phone call followed by a letter stating why the child has not attended school. If a child is not at school, we will phone the home to ascertain the reason for absence.
- We have a summer term open evening for Nursery Parents and new Infant Parents; where parents come for a presentation and a look round the school.
- Our Open Evening is a good chance to come in to look at your child's work and visit their new class.
- Induction days in the summer term allow your child to visit school and meet the staff and classmates.
Curriculum Information
- Curriculum for each year group is outside the classroom
- Teachers write daily on the white board outside the classroom about daily/weekly activities for parents/carers to read
- Curriculum coverage is given out each term at class coffee mornings
- Homework policy is in place and sent home at beginning of each year
- Parents/carers can talk to the teachers about progress, any problems and targets for the individual child each term after school on Tuesdays
- Parents/carers invited in to see child's name on Golden Tree, and the names are also in the weekly newsletter
- Reading and maths workshops are held each year for new parents
- Gold books go home termly to inform parent/carer of your child's targets and to give you chance to talk about work covered
- Bookbags have a 'link book' for two way communication about your child's reading
What to do if there is a problem
Parents are encouraged to speak to the child's class teacher at the end of the school day if they have any concerns. The Headteacher is available to talk to parent's/carers and an appointment should be made with the secretary.
