PE Curriculum Intent

The intent of our PE curriculum at West Ewell Primary is to provide all children with high quality PE and sport provision. This will be achieved through children developing competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities to develop their technique in a variety of sports. Physical Education is timetabled for 2 hours a week for all year groups, resulting in children being physically active for sustained periods of time. This will embed the importance and lifelong benefits of being physically active on both physical and mental health for all. Through the design of the curriculum, children will be able to build basic physical fundamental technique and skills in the Early Years Foundation Stage through to KS1. As our children progress through KS2, they will expand and develop their technique in readiness for KS3. Our curriculum design promotes various access routes for children to engage in competitive sport, at a level which is appropriate for the individual. Through our clear intent for PE this will raise the status of Physical Education within school and promote its lifelong benefits for the children at West Ewell.
