Welcome From Headteacher

HeadIt is my great privilege to be the headteacher of West Ewell Primary School and Nursery.

We are a happy, vibrant and successful community school and we hope you enjoy looking at our website to find out more about this special place. We have a primary specialist centre for children with communication and interaction needs (low complexity). We are excited to be able to continue our outstanding provision into key stage 2, and this year we complete our primary journey and welcome our first year six cohort.

Our school community shares the highest expectation and aspiration for everyone; working hard together towards securing the best outcomes for every single child.

We are proud to be part of the Bourne Education Trust and are happy to be working with other professionals who share the same drive for continual improvement, commitment to collaboration and ambition for every child in our schools.

I hope our school website will give you a feel for what our school is like and the aims and values that are at the heart of what we do.

West Ewell Primary School has been rated ‘Outstanding’ in its last two inspections. It is a happy, vibrant and successful community school with a well-deserved reputation for high standards of education and outstanding academic and personal achievement for every child.

Children at West Ewell Primary School are excited to come to school because every day is different, full of memorable learning experiences and achievements. We provide an inspiring and challenging curriculum which builds on the early experiences your child has had with you at home and develops each child’s individual interests and unique talents.

We enrich our curriculum in a variety of ways – in recent years the children have been on some exciting trips and residential visits to the British Wildlife Centre, Golden Hinde and Tower of London and British Museum for example. We have exciting cross curricular weeks and topics such as ‘Walk Like an Egyptian’ in Year 3, ‘London’s Burning’ in Year 2 and ‘Polar Lands’ in Reception as well as visitors such as well-known authors, the inflatable planetarium, Santa’s reindeer and the mobile farm. The staff annual pantomime and children’s productions and class assemblies are highlights of the year. We offer a wide range of clubs on most afternoons after school: football, dance, choir, Lego, mindfulness, forest club, yoga, gardening, rounders and bats, balls and biscuits for example.

We participate in community creative art and musical events, and compete in sports fixtures across the borough, enjoying great success.

Last year we welcomed a peripatetic music teacher to our team who works with children in Year 3 and 4.   As well as this, we use our wonderful school grounds throughout the year to bring learning to life.

As Headteacher of West Ewell Primary School and Nursery I am committed to making the school motto ‘Happy Days – Bright Futures’ a reality, by:

  • developing a happy, safe and caring learning environment where every child will thrive to be the very best that they can be.
  • ensuring every child achieves their full potential academically and in the broadest sense- reaching the highest standards in reading, writing and mathematics and being able to use their skills and knowledge in new learning situations.
  • empowering every child so that they develop a love of learning that stays with them for life, where they are confident, co-operative, independent and motivated and where the success of every individual is celebrated.
  • ensuring that every child has self-belief and develops the highest standards of behaviour, with a sense of responsibility, sensitivity and respect for others.

West Ewell Primary has an excellent staff team, governing committee and hugely supportive parents. I look forward to working with you in partnership over the coming years as the School goes from strength to strength.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
